Even with its disheartening plot twists, the franchise’s last installment already received a warm welcome in its home country.

Bridget Jones is back on the screen for the last time, and fans of the beloved romcom franchise were quick to show their long-lasting love for the story.

Released worldwide on Valentine’s Day, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy sees the return of Renée Zellweger as the eponymous heroine who is now left as a single mother to her two kids with Mark Darcy who died several years earlier while on a diplomatic mission in Sudan.

Despite quite a controversial happy ending that many didn’t want to see without Colin Firth ’s character, the movie became a major box office hit in the past few days and, surprisingly, even surpassed Christopher Nolan ’s Oppenheimer which was the previous record breaker back in 2023.

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy Nears $15 Million in UK Box Office After First Weekend

The franchise’s brand new and final installment had a raving success upon its release last week as it has so far earned around $14.9 million (£11.8 million) in the UK box office after a run of just 4 days in total.

The movie has also become the highest-grossing weekend opener among all the previous films in the Bridget Jones movie series as the record previously belonged to the second movie, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.

Surprisingly, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy now also holds the best ever opening among movies produced by Working Title, which at some point also helmed Christopher Nolan’s hit historical drama Oppenheimer. The latter garnered around £10.9 million during its first weekend in the UK.

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy Is a Worthy Ending to the High-Rated Franchise

Coming as the final chapter for Bridget’s turbulent love and life story, the movie offers viewers an alternative option for the lead character’s well-deserved happy ending after she failed to find one with Mark Darcy (not his fault though).

This time, the storyline revolves around Bridget who, tired of just being a single mom that almost never leaves the house, decides to give a chance to dating apps that bring her to an encounter with Roxster, a young man with whom Bridget might start everything afresh.

However, the age gap in this case does come as a problem, and Bridget realizes that the real love she’s been looking for has been closer than she could ever think all this time.
