Bryce Dallas Howard Wants the Return of This Iconic 'Star Wars' Character — Keeps Whispering His Name to Dave Filoni

A secret awakening nobody could expect.
What if one of the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy didn’t actually die? Bryce Dallas Howard has been whispering exactly that — to none other than Lucasfilm’s Dave Filoni.
In a recent interview with The Direct, Howard revealed she’s been pitching the idea of bringing back Mace Windu, played by Samuel L. Jackson, who was last seen being hurled out a Coruscant skyscraper in Revenge of the Sith.
"I want to work with Sam Jackson, just no matter what, in any circumstance," she said. “And I also love working in Star Wars... And so, you know, I harass Dave Filoni a lot about a lot of things, and that's just one, but, yeah, no, that was a fun conversation, but didn’t add up to anything.”
Yet in the world of Star Wars, few things stay dead forever — especially when nobody was found.
Howard has already made a name for herself behind the camera, directing some of the most beloved episodes of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Skeleton Crew. Fans have been calling for her to direct a feature film. But her interest in resurrecting Windu adds a new layer of intrigue. It’s not the first time she’s teased it, either — earlier in 2025, she hinted at wanting to bring him back.
Jackson’s Windu, known for his purple lightsaber and legendary presence, even made a brief voice cameo in The Rise of Skywalker. The theory that he somehow survived has lived in fan circles for years. And if anyone could reforge that legend, it might just be Howard — armed with vision, fan trust, and a persistent text thread to Filoni.
It may have started as a fun conversation. But in Star Wars, that’s usually where the trouble — and the magic — begins.
