Challenging the Originals: Recent Remakes Outshining the Classics — One Breaking Records as King’s Top Hit

Including an Oscar-winning drama with Lady Gaga and Robert Eggers’ latest horror vision.
Remakes have long been a Hollywood staple, but the industry still struggles to get them right. Audiences and critics often tear them apart, and box office numbers rarely impress.
I’ll admit it: I’m usually skeptical of remakes. In the age of reboots and recycled ideas, it's hard not to be. But these five films genuinely impressed me — I’ve seen them all, and each one brought something fresh, powerful, or surprisingly moving.
It (2017)
The 1990 miniseries had its charm, but Andy Muschietti’s It gave Pennywise terrifying new life. Bill Skarsgård's version is haunting, and the film became the highest-grossing Stephen King adaptation ever. The sequel didn’t hit as hard — but the first chapter still holds strong.
A Star Is Born (2018)
Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut paired him with Lady Gaga in a raw, emotionally honest take on the classic love story. Gorgeous music, solid chemistry, and a deeply felt performance made this version stand out — and earn an Oscar for Best Original Song.
Nosferatu (2024)
Robert Eggers turned the silent-era horror into something even darker. While the original remains iconic, this new version adds eerie visuals and haunting sound design. Not everyone will love the pace, but the atmosphere? Unforgettable.
Suspiria (2018)
Luca Guadagnino didn’t just remake Argento’s cult classic — he reimagined it. Suspiria became a stranger, more cerebral experience, with stunning visuals and an unsettling, slow-burn tone. It’s divisive, sure, but for me it was bold and hypnotic.
Little Women (2019)
Greta Gerwig gave the well-known story a fresh emotional rhythm. Her version blends period charm with modern storytelling, and the cast — from Saoirse Ronan to Florence Pugh — makes it feel alive again. I loved how it respected the original while still surprising me.
