What initially was a "see you later" can become a "goodbye".

The disappearance of Chicago Fire 's main star Taylor Kinney took viewers by surprise, but everyone was quickly reassured that the actor had temporarily left the show for personal reasons and would be back soon.

However, what seems to be happening now makes viewers suspect that Kelly Severide is gone for good.

Apparently, the departure of the actor who plays the role of Severide, Taylor Kinney, surprised not only the viewers, but also the creators of the series.

And although it is taken into account that the writers had to find an explanation for the absence of the character in a hurry, fans still did not appreciate how it was done.

Kelly went to the prestigious OFI training program to improve his skills. Such a twist seemed forced to the fans, as Severide had previously stated that he did not want to work in the OFI, and now he is going to their training program.

The fandom has suggested other scenarios that could have been more successful, but it is what it is. Some time had passed since Severide left, and unpleasant suspicions began to creep in.

When Stella Kidd also disappeared for several episodes, the show simply moved on, but now that Kelly is gone, the writers are putting too much emphasis on a character who is not even in the frame, mentioning him in every episode.

The writers also seem to be trying to quickly fill the void left by Kinney.

Fans were heartbroken when Jesse Spencer left the show in October 2021 after his character, Captain Matthew Casey, made the decision to move to Oregon and raise his deceased best friend's children.

Casey returned for the season 10 finale to see his best friend getting married. And now the character is being brought back in season 11, as if to replace Kelly.

It all looks like the writers are putting the finishing touches on the departure of Taylor Kinney. Fans are hoping that it's all just about adding drama where it is not really necessary.

In any case, it will not be long before the viewers will find everything out, as Stella said that Kelly will be gone for a month and a half.

The next episode of Chicago Fire airs on May 4th.
