Chicago Fire season 15 release date: an October premiere — and one Firehouse 51 original is packing up after 14 years
One Chicago returns with a cliffhanger to resolve, a new boss behind the curtain, and a goodbye that's going to hurt the longtime faithful.
Chicago Fire season 15 premieres Wednesday, October 7 at 9/8c on NBC, with episodes streaming on Peacock the next day — the same night the whole One Chicago bloc (Med, Fire, P.D.) comes back. The new season runs 21 episodes and opens with the only question that matters: who actually walked out of that exploding storage facility from the season 14 finale.
But the bigger story is who's walking out of the firehouse for good. Joe Miñoso is leaving the series, ending Joe Cruz's run that began in the very first episode back on October 10, 2012 — a guest spot that became a series-regular gig in season 2 and, over 14 years, one of the show's most beloved tenures. Miñoso will appear in a handful of early season 15 episodes to wrap Cruz's story, with Da'Vinchi (BMF) joining Firehouse 51 as the new firefighter.

The fan translation was instant. From the comments under one premiere preview:

What Cruz leaves behind
- The résumé: the Slamigan — a forcible-entry tool Cruz invented that became canon — plus a Zumba side hustle and 14 years of truck rescues.
- The love story: he married Chloe, a woman he pulled out of a fire; the season 14 finale revealed she's pregnant with twins, which fans suspect is the exit ramp — surviving the blast, then stepping back for family.
- The remaining originals: just three after he goes — Taylor Kinney, David Eigenberg, and Christian Stolte. And Eigenberg's Herrmann spent last season dropping retirement hints of his own.
New season, new regime
The changes go past the cast list. Showrunner Andrea Newman is out after 14 years with the franchise, handing the reins to Victor Teran; her farewell statement read, in part:
"After 14 years, you really do become a family."
Dermot Mulroney's Chief Pascal also exits early in season 15, Matthew Daddario joins, and Severide enters the season holding a captain's exam result and a standing offer from the Office of Fire Investigation — the kind of decision that tends to get postponed by whatever's still burning on October 7.
