Just whip the butter, add powdered sugar and milk, and mix everything for a few minutes — the cream turns out so fluffy and stable that it will easily fit your decorating needs and become a frequent guest in your kitchen.

Here’s what you need: 1 cup (about 12 ounces) of unsalted softened butter, a pinch of salt (if using unsalted butter), 1.5 pounds (about 6 cups) of sifted powdered sugar, 4 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract; 3–5 tablespoons of heavy cream, semi-skimmed milk, or regular milk.

In a large bowl, using an electric mixer on medium or high speed, beat the butter until smooth and creamy (about 2–3 minutes).

On the lowest speed, add the salt, sifted powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and 3 tablespoons of cream or milk, and beat until combined.

Increase the speed to medium or high and continue beating for about 4–5 more minutes.

If the cream is too thick, add more cream or milk, one teaspoon at a time, until you reach the desired consistency.
