Coming Soon: Richard Linklater’s 'Blue Moon' Explores the Final Years of Legendary Songwriter Lorenz Hart

Star-studded cast and Berlin premiere mark highly anticipated release.
Always eager for new cinematic gems, I was thrilled to see the debut trailer for Richard Linklater’s latest film, Blue Moon. The trailer offers a tantalising glimpse into what promises to be a deeply intimate and poetic exploration of the final years in the life of the legendary singer-songwriter Lorenz Hart.
Known for his lyrical genius and tragic personal story, Hart’s life has long fascinated fans of classic American music and cinema alike.
The film boasts a stellar cast, with Margaret Qualley delivering a compelling performance, alongside Ethan Hawke — a Linklater regular whose presence always elevates any project — and Andrew Scott, whose nuanced acting promises to add complexity.
The movie had its world premiere at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival on 18 February 2025, an event that’s become synonymous with showcasing bold, artistic cinema.
Excitingly, Blue Moon will begin screening in New York and Los Angeles from 17 October, before expanding into wider US and UK theatres on 24 October.
As someone who appreciates films that blend history, music, and introspection, I can’t wait to see how Linklater captures Hart’s poetic soul and turbulent life. This promises to be a beautifully crafted tribute to one of America’s most talented yet tragic songwriters — a must-watch for cinephiles and music lovers alike.
