Cosmo Jarvis No Longer Part of Nolan’s Epic — Here’s the Role He Chose Instead

Another actor has already taken over the role in The Odyssey.
British actor Cosmo Jarvis, best known for his recent turns in Shōgun and Warfare, has stepped away from Christopher Nolan’s ambitious adaptation of The Odyssey due to a scheduling conflict. It’s a notable departure, considering the film’s high-wattage cast, which includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson and Anne Hathaway. Jarvis was set to join the mythological epic shortly before production began, but sometimes the Fates have other plans — even in Hollywood.
Instead, Jarvis will focus on leading Young Stalin, a biographical drama about the early years of the controversial Soviet figure. It’s a striking shift — from gods and sea monsters to the halls of revolutionary power. But for an actor like Jarvis, known for gravitating toward complex, often darker roles, the move feels more like a pivot than a step back. Who wouldn’t be curious to see how he tackles such a charged historical figure?
Though his role in The Odyssey has not been publicly identified, another actor has already quietly filled the vacancy. Logan Marshall-Green — known for Prometheus and The Defeated — has joined the cast, though the specifics of his character remain under wraps. One might wonder: who was Jarvis meant to play? A cunning suitor? A cursed god? We may not find out until much later — if at all.
Currently filming across Morocco, Italy, Ireland and Scotland, The Odyssey is slated for an IMAX release on July 17, 2026. With Damon starring as Odysseus and Holland as his son Telemachus, the film promises a sweeping retelling of Homer’s epic — complete with Cyclopes, Sirens, vengeful gods and the ever-patient Penelope. Myth, mystery and the occasional casting shake-up — it’s all part of the journey, isn’t it?
