Costumes Donated, Scripts Scrapped — Feige Finally Explains 'Blade' Mess?

Vampire reboot still alive, despite chaos behind scenes.
After years of false starts, rewrites, and behind-the-scenes reshuffling, Marvel’s long-delayed Blade reboot appears to still be on life support — but breathing, just. Studio head Kevin Feige has offered a rare update, confirming that Mahershala Ali remains attached to play the half-human, half-vampire antihero, despite the project’s chaotic history.
And chaotic it is: from director exits to costume repurposing, Blade has become something of a cautionary tale within the MCU.
Ali, for his part, has kept things vague. While promoting Jurassic World: Rebirth, the two-time Oscar winner dodged Marvel-related questions with a laugh and a quick deflection.
Later, Ali told Variety, "Call Marvel… I’m ready. Let them know I’m ready."
Ready, perhaps — but clearly waiting.
Feige’s own explanation was telling. Speaking at a recent press event, he admitted Marvel had been moving too fast for its own good. "We got the mandate to make more," he said, "and we said, 'Sure, we’ve got more!'" As for Blade, the search for the right tone has caused endless rewrites and a revolving door of talent.
"We didn’t want to just throw a leather jacket on [Ali] and have him start killing vampires," Feige added. "We wanted something unique. And honestly? The script wasn’t insanely great at the time."
To date, six writers and at least three directors have been attached — and detached — from the project. Most recently, Blade’s period costumes were handed off to Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, sparking online panic about whether the film had quietly been shelved.
For now, though, the project is still moving (slowly), with a new script by Eric Pearson said to bring the action into the present day. Will it finally come together? Many fans — and probably Ali himself — are still waiting to find out.
