While there has still been no official confirmation that Jon Snow sequel 'Snow' will ever hit our screens, rumours are already circulating that we could see it before House of the Dragon season 2.

With the franchise such a huge global success, and confirmation over the summer from George RR Martin that "second and third drafts" of the script have already been written, it seems likely that the spinoff show is on its way. But could it really be out before season 2 of HotD?

Well, given where the project currently stands, it's safe to say we're unlikely to be tuning into Snow before 2025.

And we know that season 2 of House of the Dragon has been commissioned – even if production is not yet underway. Filming for the first season of House of the Dragon began in April 2021 – and the show was released in August 2022. That's a turnaround of 15 months.

Forbes reports that filming for the next season is set to commence in April 2023, so working on the same timescale, we would probably expect season 2 of House of the Dragon to be released in August 2024.

That would presumably mean it arrives before Snow is released. And we could see it even earlier than that. Don't forget Covid restrictions were still impacting the world when filming began on season 1. So, there's every chance that season 2 will be completed more quickly.

So, all things considered, it seems unlikely that we'll see a Jon Snow spinoff show before season 2 of House of the Dragon is released. And that may not be a bad thing.

There's been some criticism of the pace of HotD season 1, but we're promised that it will pick up in future seasons. So, giving showrunners the chance to win round the skeptics might be a wise move anyway.

As a popular character in Game of Thrones, any spinoff featuring him (and all indications are that he'll be played by Kit Harrington who is said to have come up with the idea for the show) will be greeted with huge anticipation.

Re-engaging the HotD audience as well as ensuring the writers and showrunners for the spinoff are given adequate time to nail it, is far preferable to rushing it through production and ending with another show that is seen as something of a let down by some fans of the franchise.
