A new set video offers a first look at the returning controversial character.

Summary

  • The second season of Criminal Minds: Evolution is currently in production.
  • Recently, a new video was released showing the character introduced in the previous season.
  • His involvement will bring drama and perhaps even conflict to the BAU.

In early 2024, the cast and crew of Criminal Minds: Evolution have finally begun the active phase of production, and filming has been quietly underway for months. So far, not much is known about the upcoming Season 2, except for the core cast members.

Nevertheless, Paramount never stops teasing us with new updates that, despite their lightheartedness, actually provide a lot of interesting details that fans actively start speculating about. For example, a new set video featuring the cast of Evolution was recently released, and despite its playful tone, the video was surprisingly insightful. It showed us the return of a rather controversial character who is sure to cause a lot of drama at BAU.

New Set Video

Recently, the official Criminal Minds TikTok account posted a hilarious video from the set of the new season of Evolution. In it, the cast follows the 'of course' trend of TikTok, joking about typical aspects of their characters and the show as a whole.

Notably, in addition to core cast members like Joe Mantegna, Paget Brewster, AJ Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez and Aisha Tyler, two noteworthy actors, Zach Gilford and Ryan-James Hatanaka, were also featured.

And while the presence of Sicarius' actor makes sense, as he still poses a threat through his proxies despite his incarceration, the return of Tyler Green provides interesting food for thought.

Season 2 to Feature Controversial Character

Tyler Green was introduced in the first season as a former US Army officer and vigilante who was hunting Elias Voit, aka Sicarius, for the murder of his sister. As you may recall, he was able to successfully infiltrate Elias Voit's crime ring and, through an affair with Penelope Garcia, force the BAU to cooperate in the capture of Sicarius.

And now it has been revealed that although Green has been arrested and taken into FBI custody, the BAU has hired him as a consultant. While the main goal is to finally take down Voight and his serial killer empire, it is not yet known exactly what role Tyler will play within the BAU. However, given his skills, he's sure to be a useful asset.

Also, Ryan-James Hatanaka's role will now be expanded to regular, but it is not yet known if he will become a permanent member of the Behavioral Analysis Unit or if this is just Sicarius' case for the time being.

But with that comes no small amount of controversy. Not because the character has violated the law, but because he will bring more than a little drama to the Unit due to his previous romantic entanglements with Garcia. Now comes the love triangle between those two and Alvez, with whom Garcia seemed to have something special.

Who Else Is Returning for the New Season?

So far we can only say for sure about the following actors:

  • Joe Mantegna as David Rossi
  • AJ Cook as Jennifer 'JJ' Jareau
  • Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia
  • Aisha Tyler as Dr. Tara Lewis
  • Adam Rodriguez as Luke Alvez
  • Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss
  • Ryan-James Hatanaka as Tyler Green
  • Zach Gilford as Elias Voit
  • Felicity Huffman as Dr. Jill Gideon

Fans have been praying for Matthew Gray Gubler's return to the show. However, Paramount may be looking for an appropriate time to make a reveal, or they may be relishing the tension building up to the announcement in order to suddenly surprise the fandom with their favorite character's comeback.

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 is already being filmed. So, judging by the previous season, we should not expect the new one to be released until Q3 2024 or even later.
