Crunchyroll Dropped 2025's Best Anime With 8.5 on IMDb – Fans Call It a "Miracle"

If you've already watched Dandadan, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Chainsaw Man, then it's time to pay attention to another top-tier new title – Gachiakuta. Here's why it can compete with the biggest hits of recent years.
On July 6, Crunchyroll released the first episode of the anime adaptation of Gachiakuta – manga by Kei Urana and graffiti artist Hideyoshi Ando. The series is produced by Bones Film, Fumihiko Suganuma, known for Angel Beats!, directs, and Hiroshi Seko, the screenwriter of Dandadan and Attack on Titan, wrote the story.
And here's why every anime fan should check out Gachiakuta this season.
What Is 'Gachiakuta' About?
It is a futuristic world in which people are divided into two groups: the wealthy who live in the clean part of the city, and the poor who live in the slums. The main character, Rudo, is a garbage collector from slums who earns money by fixing items.
He lives with Regto, who took him in. But because of a false murder accusation, Rudo is thrown into the worst place on Earth – a bottomless garbage abyss known as The Pit.
Rudo nearly dies, but meeting the locals makes him realize that he can survive if he becomes a professional garbage man. Thus begins Rudo's journey from the bottom to the top to carry out his revenge.
Who Made 'Gachiakuta'?
The title is being produced by Bones Film, a subsidiary of Bones whose library includes many hits, such as Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, My Hero Academia, and Mob Psycho 100.
Gachiakuta is Fumihiko Suganuma's first major work as the main director. Previously, he worked on episodes of Charlotte, and Train to the End of the World.
The script, however, was written by Hiroshi Seko, a star in the world of anime adaptations whose track record includes such hits as Dandadan, Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Chainsaw Man.
'Gachiakuta' Is One of the Most Promising Titles of 2025 Right Now
Despite the fact that only the first episode has been released and 23 more are to come, there is every reason to be optimistic about the future of Gachiakuta.
If the creators can maintain a balance between action and careful attention to the original source without compromising the quality of the visuals, the anime could rank high in such a competitive season alongside Dandadan, Kaiju No. 8, and Dr. Stone.
What Did Critics & Viewers Think of 'Gachiakuta'?
Despite concerns that the adaptation would struggle to balance action and stylish visuals with social subtext, the creators did not disappoint, as noted by the vast majority of fans. Redditor detarameReddit wrote:
“This adaptation is awesome and exceeded my expectations, which were already pretty high. The manga's insane style is somehow not lost at all, which is a miracle.”

On IMDb, Gachiakuta has a score of 8.5/10.
