Darren Mann’s 5 Best Movies and Shows to Watch After 1923

The actor rose to stardom thanks to TV shows, but also appeared in a couple of films that might sound familiar to you.
Taylor Sheridan ’s Paramount+ hit series 1923 is less than a week away from wrapping the story up, but one of its leads is already off the screen after the latest episode’s shocking series of plot twists.
The ongoing second season’s episode 6 saw the death of Jack Dutton, leaving the show’s fans, especially those who loved Darren Mann’s performance, heartbroken.
However, 1923 is, arguably, just one of many compelling stories that can be found in the actor’s filmography; having started his career off with several notable TV roles, Mann went on to prove himself in the movies too, and you might have already seen him in some of those.
Hello Destroyer (2016)
Expanding the story already told in a 2013 short film Destroyer, the movie stars Jared Abrahamson as Tyson Burr, an enforcer on a hockey team whose life is thrown upside down when his hit on the rival team’s player turns out to be more violent than ever intended.
The accident prompts Jared to think more about self-consciousness, ways to reconcile and self-identity, which ultimately helps him explore some really disturbing and controversial matters about violence.
Released in 2016, Hello Destroyer was named one of the best Canadian films of the year, eventually securing a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and holding it to this day.
Giant Little Ones (2018)
This time starring Darren Mann in one of the leading roles, Giant Little Ones follows two lifelong best friends Franky and Ballas whose life is just everything they could ever want: both are handsome and considered true local stars thanks to their school’s swim team, and, additionally, have success with girls too.
However, the fun is over when the boys get involved in an intimate accident at Franky’s birthday party; the controversy makes many dark secrets resurface and ultimately leads to radical changes in Franky and Ballas’ parents’ life too.
The movie also features Kyle MacLachlan among others.
Embattled (2020)
The sports drama stars Stephen Dorff as Cash "The Slayer" Boykins, an MMA fighter leaving his family behind when his second son is born with a rare genetic disorder.
Raised by an abusive father himself, Cash has to fight his inner demons too while he tries to use his anger as a tool to reach new heights in the sports career.
However, he soon has to meet someone unexpected at the battle ring — his eldest son Jett who, after taking care of his younger brother for years, decides to become an MMA fighter too.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018 — 2019)
Netflix ’s supernatural horror hit based on the book series of the same name, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina ran for two seasons split into four parts in total until it was cancelled due to the 2020 pandemic.
The show reimagines the well-known story of Sabrina Spellman whose dual nature gives her both unique advantage and big trouble, with the latter being a major threat to her family and herself.
The series stars Darren Mann as Lucas "Luke" Chalfant, a warlock who becomes the romantic interest for Sabrina’s cousin Ambrose; the actor appears in the first season only though.
Imposters (2017 — 2018)
Despite featuring Mann in one episode only, Imposters might become the next favorite for those seeking more compelling projects to check out after 1923.
The dark comedy show spawned two seasons, following Inbar Lavi’s con artist Maddie who is, quite literally, a heartthrob. For years she has remained lowkey, leaving her victims with a tardy realization that they’ve been robbed of everything — and their hearts too.
However, Maddie’s criminal career is soon threatened by the appearance of a potential love interest and a bunch of men who embark on a mission to bring her to justice.
