Dave Franco & Alison Brie’s Creepy New Horror Just Got Stephen King’s Stamp of Approval

The movie wasn’t much of a box office hit, but the chances are it will likely become the best horror of this year (yes, even with King’s new adaptation counting).
If there’s someone who knows a thing or two about horrors, it’s definitely Stephen King.
Having risen to stardom after publishing his first ever horror-ish novel “Carrie”, the author went on to create tens of other stories alike, and those are still conquering big screens with more adaptations.
However, King isn’t a stranger to someone else’s plot lines too, with the writer constantly updating his list of recommendations for fans.
This time, King has offered his word on one of the most anticipated horror movies of this year, and his review has just confirmed what everyone was saying before.
Stephen King Praises Dave Franco’s ‘Together’
Things turned out in a quite unexpected way for Dave Franco after he partied extremely hard in Seth Rogen’s hit comedy show The Studio.
Now the actor starred alongside real-life wife Alison Bree in Michael Shanks’ directorial debut Together which follows a young couple that experiences horrifying changes in their bodies after moving to the countryside.
Critics were raving about the movie before it premiered worldwide on July 30, and it seems like Stephen King is of the same opinion.
“Dave Franco and Alison Brie are great – and brave – in TOGETHER. Horror movies work when you care about the people. This one works”, King wrote on his X account just recently.
What Critics and Viewers Say About ‘Together’
-
On Rotten Tomatoes, Together holds scores of 90% and 76% from critics and viewers
-
On IMDb, the movie is rated 7.1/10
Considering how much of a fuss Together has made in recent days, it’s fair to say the movie will remain an object of everyone’s talking for a while now, leaving behind King’s The Monkey released several months prior.
“Alison Brie and Dave Franco give two of the most memorable and wild performances of the year in this original story that is horrifying, romantic and gives a whole new meaning to “codependency”, WBAL-TV’s Lauren Veneziani said about Together.
“There are jump scares. There are some shocks. And the tone and setting are pure Horror 101. But for those who aren't put off by these things – or embrace them wholeheartedly – Together offers an unexpectedly human framework”, ReelViews’ James Berardinelli wrote.
The viewers, however, are a bit more divided.
“I don’t understand why it’s considered a horror film. It has gruesome scenes but mainly it’s just weird and creepy”, user Hina B commented on Rotten Tomatoes’ website.
“Almost a perfect horror movie. Well crafted original story, incredible acting and overall really well done. The only problem for me is the missing backstory/explanation, which in this movie in particular is not a big problem”, Robert B retorted.
Together is currently playing in theatres worldwide.
