Dave Franco’s Cameo in ‘The Studio’ Episode 9, Explained: Why It’s the Show’s Funniest Moment Yet

“Cinemacon” has become The Studio’s highest-rated episode to-date, with Dave Franco being one of the centre figures in the whole mess. Here’s how the actor’s cameo role contributed to the show’s astounding success and what Franco had to say about it all.
Seth Rogen’s Hollywood satire The Studio is heading towards its finale next week, moving on from the chaotic pre-party that Matt and the co almost crashed on the eve of their CinemaCon presentation.
Traditionally, things got even more complicated with the news about Continental Studios’ possible sale to Amazon, as well as the revelation about the psychedelic mushrooms that were just a little bit too much for the old-styled Hollywood buffet’s chocolate.
Still, even with Zoë Kravitz returning and Bryan Cranston completely losing it all, it was Dave Franco who stole the entire show as the pre-party host and somehow contributed to the moment of madness for Matt’s team.
Dave Franco Breaks Down His Chaotic Cameo Role in ‘The Studio’
In the episode 9 titled “CinemaCon”, the actor is seen having the best time of his life as a party animal who repeatedly messes with Matt and his team when they embark on a search for Continental’s CEO Griffin Mill.
It’s pretty easy to guess that, but Franco later admits to having eaten lots of those chocolates with mushrooms inside.
The episode sees the actor going completely nuts, and there might be a reason why Seth Rogen went with Franco as his first choice for the cameo.
“I think Seth and Evan tapped into the fact that I am generally a very happy, positive person, and they took that to a pretty toxic degree — a kind of toxic positivity. They thought there would be a lot of humor to mine from the fact that everyone else in the episode is extremely stressed out by their accidental high, and inserting an extremely positive Dave Franco into that mix would annoy everyone who is trying to keep it all together”, the actor revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Still, Franco then added that he doesn’t think his guest appearance in the show can actually be associated with what he’s like in real life.
“I think that's part of the fun of it is again, playing a version of yourself that is so far from reality that it just gives you a lot of leeway to have fun and be as insane as possible. And I'm someone who doesn't generally get very f---ed up ever, or go to Vegas very much, or do literally anything that I'm doing in this episode. And so that's the fun of it all: trying things that I don't generally do”, the actor said.
‘The Studio’ Fans Are Still Not Over “CinemaCon” Episode
With the latest episode now going as high as 9.0 on IMDb, which so far is the best result out of all episodes of the show, The Studio’s audiences are now convinced it has the most solid Emmy material.
“Worst thing about this episode was the to be continued at the end. I was loving every minute of it”, Redditor ikon31 revealed in a thread.
“The best episode of the season. Perfectly chaotic in every possible way. 10/10. Give Bryan Cranston the Emmy. Dave Franco as Dave Franco is sooo good”, HitTheRoadJackson agreed.
“Cranston’s acting this episode was top notch but holy s—t was Dave Franco freaking hilarious as well”, creedsthoughts4 chimed in.
When is ‘The Studio’ Next Episode Coming?
