The show’s latest episode has been quite a shocker for some fans, but there might be no reason to worry after all — we’re breaking down what happened in The Simpsons’s season 36 finale.

Things seemingly went very wrong in the last episode of The Simpsons’ season 36, potentially leading to a heartbreaking and pretty shocking plot twist, though it might have been just Marge overthinking.

The latest instalment’s finale titled “Estranger things” saw a major shift in Bart and Lisa’s relationship, but that wasn’t even the biggest shocker compared to the scene that witnesses Marge being, well, killed off.

This was definitely now what the show’s fans ever expected to see — however, there's proof that the plot twist was nothing more than a tricky game.

What Happened in ‘The Simpsons’ Season 36 Episode 18?

In the season’s finale, Marge’s decision to get some Itchy And Scratchy-themed products for her youngest daughter Maggie leads to Bart and Lisa reconsidering their love for the show which they used to watch together, now being convinced that the series is for the babies.

Since Itchy And Scratchy was one of few things that the siblings shared their interest for, Marge sees her children’s decision to stop watching the show and instead turn to their respectable TV favorites as a breaking point in their relationship which sooner or later will see the two drifting apart.

Marge then starts fantasizing about Bart and Lisa’s future years later, adding up to The Simpsons’ many flash-forward-driven episodes.

No, Marge doesn’t die in the show since the scene depicting her death sometime later is nothing more but her fantasy about what Bart and Lisa’s relationship will be like when their mother is gone.

Despite the episode being released more than a month ago, it somehow triggered the show’s fans only now, with some fearing that The Simpsons reached its plot’s most disheartening point yet.

However, those worrying about Marge’s fate have (yet) nothing to worry about since she’s well and alive — and definitely returning in the series’ upcoming season 37.

When Will ‘The Simpsons’ Season 37 Be Released?

The show’s next instalment is now set to premiere sometime this fall, though the exact date hasn’t been announced yet.
