James Gunn's farewell to the MCU is eagerly awaited by millions of fans around the world, but as of this moment the upcoming film is still shrouded in mystery, especially regarding its plot. New photos from the set may finally change that.
It remains to be seen if 'Guardians of the Galaxy 3' will be the swan song for Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and his crew, but something very emotional is sure to happen as more and more actors (including Dave Bautista and Karen Gillan) are hinting at the possible death of their characters. Although we don't know the exact details of the plot, we now have a chance to learn about the location in which some of the events might take place.
According to set photos released by @atlanta-filming, at least part of the adventures of the titular heroes will take place on Counter-Earth. The alternate version of Earth was created by the High Evolutionary, a scientist who dreamed of an Earth without superheroes or superpowers, a "cleaner" version of the planet. When his original project with happy and powerless humans was destroyed by Thanos, the High Evolutionary filled Counter-Earth with New Humans, humanoid beings capable of doing all the things humans can do.
The story is tragic, and the High Evolutionary will undoubtedly be present in the film, perhaps even as a hero rather than a villain. Photos from the set taken by paparazzi showed fans that Gunn takes practical effects very seriously – all the extras are dressed in realistic masks and costumes, allowing them to look just like aliens without any CGI.
Fans are already rejoicing at the chance to see one of the greatest story arcs in comics finally adapted for the big screen.
'Guardians of the Galaxy 3' will hit theatres on May 23, 2023.
