Toei is celebrating its 70th anniversary by redoing the Dragon Ball episodes fans turned into memes — and selling the same show to two streamers six days apart.

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus premiered October 11, 2026, on Fuji TV in Japan and on Crunchyroll worldwide the same day (with Hulu in the US), with new episodes dropping Sundays. Netflix has the show too — starting October 14 in select regions and October 17 in the US, on Saturdays, running six days behind. Same series, two storefronts, two calendars: Crunchyroll subscribers watch day-and-date with Japan, Netflix subscribers watch last week's episode and call it new. It's the exact arrangement Netflix accepted for Dragon Ball Daima and its weekly One Piece runs, which tells you the streamer has decided that being late to anime is cheaper than being first.

The series itself is an "enhanced edition" remake of Dragon Ball Super, made for Toei Animation's 70th anniversary: the Battle of Gods material rebuilt with updated animation, a reconstructed narrative drawn from Akira Toriyama's original story and designs, and the filler cut. The reported episode count, via leaker SugoiLITE, is 19 — against the original's 131, and one fewer than Daima's 20, which would make it the shortest series in the franchise's four-decade history.

Why remake the one arc everyone has seen

Because of how the first version looked. The early Dragon Ball Super episodes of 2015 are the franchise's most infamous stretch of animation — the off-model Goku of episode 5's fight with Beerus became a meme that outlived the arc itself. The remake's entire pitch is that fight, done right: a new Goku-vs-God-of-Destruction showdown rebuilt shot for shot, at anniversary-prestige quality. Toei is spending its 70th birthday correcting the thing the internet never let it forget.

The original Dragon Ball Super ran 131 episodes. The remake's main selling point is the 112 it's leaving out.

A few more practical notes for anyone planning their Sundays (or Saturdays):

  • Coverage: the series is confirmed to span at least the first three arcs of Super, so Resurrection F and the Universe 6 tournament are on the slate after Beerus.
  • The dub: not announced. Episode 1 premiered at New York Comic Con on October 8 with the Japanese cast's work front and center, and Crunchyroll's launch is subtitled.
  • The timeslot: Fuji TV's Sunday 11:15 p.m. — the same slot where Daima premiered, two years to the date.
  • What's next: Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, the actual continuation and follow-up to Broly, is in production. Beerus is the appetizer with better knife work.
