Dream’s shocking decision led to the introduction of two major characters in The Sandman’s finale, and now the show’s fans can’t help feeling sorry for Tom Sturridge’s character.
Despite many fans hoping for a different outcome, there was a bittersweet end of everything for Dream in The Sandman’s season 2 finale, which also unveiled a significant detail about the character’s past life.
In the sophomore instalment’s volume 2, Dream aka Morpheus realizes he doesn’t have much time left until the Kindly Ones will bring their vengeance on him for spilling the blood of his son Orpheus (who begged his father to kill him).
As he gets things prepared for his descendant, baby Daniel Hall conceived in the Dreaming, to become the ruler of the realm, Dream wants to leave everything in order, including his own unresolved issues with others.
As a result, he goes on to meet his parents and try to make peace with them. However, the scene turned out to be an emotional roller coaster for The Sandman’s fans as well.
Who Is Dream’s Mother in ‘The Sandman’?
In both Neil Gaiman’s comic book series and the TV adaptation, Dream’s mother is a cosmic being called Night whose role in Netflix’s The Sandman is played by Tanya Moodie.
According to the original source material, Night is the embodiment of the absolute emptiness that predates creation; she has a skin of the night blue color and is always dressed in lavender-coloured clothes.
There’s little to know about Night’s background story, including the way she actually came to be, though it’s clear that she is the mother to all of the Endless siblings who, however, she doesn’t have much interest in.
She shares all of her kids with Time, the embodiment of the primordial time and existence as a whole.
Despite being more humble with her children than her husband, Night still acts pretty roughly when Dream comes to visit his parents, once again showing lack of interest in his fate when Dream declines Night’s offer of a sanctuary in her domain.
‘The Sandman’ Fans Feel Sorry for the Endless Over “Mommy and Daddy Issues”
Even though Dream’s encounter with his emotionally distant parents was pretty short, it was still enough for the show’s fans to realize where all of the Endless’ problems were coming from.
“Bloody hell I thought my parents were bad. No wonder he can’t have a healthy relationship. Poor Dream. Tom just keeps getting better and better, such a shame there won’t be anymore”, Redditor pilgrimhat wrote in a thread.
“They kinda dropped the ball visually with Time and Night, but I do love their scenes just cause it shows how the family is so messed up. Basically divorced parents who deny their kids love except as conditional, and then are outwardly angry with the kids for not visiting them more often”, dolphincave reflected on the matter.
“Seeing dream with his parents made it evident why Delirium is how she is.. they are all riddled with mommy and daddy issues”, ashkeddiitttt added.
