Here’s Why the Sisters of the Frenzy May Doom Dream in ‘The Sandman’ Finale

Three mysterious characters in The Sandman’s season 2 volume 1 finale are responsible for the most shocking plot twist, but they might do something similar in the show’s upcoming definite finale.
The Sandman’s season 2 finale is just around the corner, which means fans better be prepared for whatever vengeance deities will bring upon the show’s characters.
Based on Neil Gaiman’s comic book series of the same name, Netflix’s TV adaptation remains faithful to its original source material’s Greek mythology inspiration, introducing a set of new characters in a recent volume 1 who are yet to show what they’re capable of in the finale set to be released this week.
Particularly, the Sisters of the Frenzy’s possible second appearance so far leaves a big question for the show’s final outcome.
Who Are the Sisters of the Frenzy in ‘The Sandman’?
In both the original comics and the TV show, the Sisters of the Frenzy, also known as the Maenads, are the trio of women who worship Dionysus, the god of revelry, wine, and madness.
Inspired by the figures from Greek mythology, they are known for their wild behaviour, as well as for ecstatic and frenzied rituals, which is why they eventually received a common name of the Sisters of the Frenzy.
In The Sandman, the three of them play a crucial role in the second season’s volume 1 finale when Dream’s son Orpheus starts looking for the Maenads hoping that they would be merciful enough to kill him.
In the end, Orpheus does get what he wanted all along as he suffers an attack from the Sisters who decapitate him, eventually throwing his head into a river nearby.
The Sisters of the Frenzy’s Plot Twist Might Have Consequences for Morpheus
Even though Dream doesn’t react to his son’s pleas to kill him so that he could reunite with his deceased wife, the Sisters’ deed will still likely have Morpheus responsible for violating the divine law.
In the first volume’s finale, the prophecy read by one of the Sisters suggests that Dream will have to face deadly consequences for allegedly spilling family blood before The Fates, also known as Kindly Ones.
These are another trio of women, though this time they come as vengeful goddesses whose duties include punishing those committing blood crimes, in this case — punishing Dream for letting his son die.
It’s not yet clear whether Dream will in fact become the literal victim of Kindly Ones’ revenge, but the original comic books imply that the character will still have to go through a major change once the trio is aware of his crime.
The Sandman’s season 2 volume 1 is being released on Netflix on July 24.
