Paramount+ has apparently decided that suspense is for other networks. The streamer greenlit a second season of its Beth-and-Rip juggernaut a full nine days before the season 1 finale dropped, which is the corporate equivalent of proposing on the second date.

And honestly? Fair. The numbers made the decision for them.

The math behind the panic-renewal

The show pulled 12.9 million global viewers in its first seven days, the biggest original series launch in Paramount+ history, and executives reacted the way executives do when a spreadsheet starts glowing. Head of originals Jane Wiseman called Beth and Rip

"among the most iconic duos in television history"

in the renewal announcement, which is the kind of thing you say when a spreadsheet is glowing at you. Kelly Reilly, for her part, framed it less like a victory lap. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter after the finale, she said:

"It feels like we earned this second season"

— and given that she spent nine episodes rebuilding Beth Dutton from the ashes of Montana, in Texas, opposite Annette Bening playing the most charming con artist on television, she has a point.

So where's my season 2, then

Here's where I ruin your day. Season 2 hasn't started filming. Cameras are expected to roll in early 2027, and season 1 needed roughly nine months between first shot and premiere. Do the arithmetic and you land somewhere in the fall of 2027 — think October, November — before we find out what happens after that finale. Between now and then, a few things to chew on:

The cliffhanger is a double gut-punch: Beulah's con and Carter's kidnapping, both unresolved, both marinating for a year-plus.
There's a new sheriff in the writers' room — Benjamin Cavell (SEAL Team, Justified) takes over as showrunner from Chad Feehan, who exited after one season.
Reilly and Hauser are executive producers now, so the "Beth would never say that" complaints go straight to the top.
