This sets a great example for more celebrities to follow.

The SAGAFTRA actors' strike may have just begun, but it already feels like it's here to stay. With studios willing to delay the release of upcoming films and networks pushing back their fall schedules, it's clear that executives have no intention of backing down and agreeing to fair pay and controlled use of AI.

Although the majority of actors are coming together to support each other in these tough times, there are some who have already managed to raise a few eyebrows. Tom Cruise's suggestion that celebrities be allowed to promote upcoming movie releases was met with strong disapproval from those on strike. But not all A-listers are following in his footsteps.

Dwayne Johnson, for example, recently announced his support for the strike in the most generous way imaginable. The actor responded to a letter sent by SAG-AFTRA Foundation President Courtney B. Vance, asking for donations to help those who are losing income due to the strike.

The letter was addressed to 2,700 of the union's highest-earning actors. Throughout the weeks of the strike, debate raged over whether it was appropriate for such celebrities to join the picket lines, given that they don't suffer from the issues the union is fighting against. Donations provided an alternative way to show support.

Not only did Johnson donate, but he also made the foundation's history with the largest single donation ever. While the amount is not publicly disclosed, Vance says he was very grateful and impressed by the gesture:

“It was a love fest. It’s like, ‘Man, you’re stepping up in a way that is allowing others to know the dire necessity of it’. This is him saying, ‘In such a time as this, I’m here and I’m not going anywhere, whatever you need me to do.’ And that sends a huge message to other folks to do the same thing,” he said to Variety.

There is no way to predict how and when the strikes will end. But it's already clear that the union needs all the support it can get, especially from the community.

Hopefully, Dwayne Johnson's donation can start a conversation about all the different ways to help the cause and start a trend of other big Hollywood names getting involved.
