In 2020, Emily in Paris, starring Lily Collins, became Netflix's most popular comedy. Despite criticism from reviewers regarding its plot lines and numerous clichés, the series has made it to its fifth season.
The new episodes are expected to take place in Italy, where Emily will once again have romantic and career adventures. Read on to find out when the fifth season will be released and what to expect from it.
When Will 'Emily in Paris' Season 5 Be Released?
Back in September 2024, show creator Darren Star confirmed the series' renewal for a fifth season. Almost a year later, the release date was announced.
Initially expected to arrive no earlier than 2026, Emily in Paris Season 5 will ultimately premiere on December 18, 2025, on Netflix.
What Happened in 'Emily in Paris' Season 4?
According to the plot of the fourth season, Emily finally breaks up with Gabriel and starts a relationship with Marcello, an Italian man she recently met. He invites her to spend the weekend in Rome, and she accepts.
However, she can't resist work, even on vacation. Upon learning that Marcello is the heir to a local brand, Emily, at her boss Sylvie's urging, offers him the services of the Grateau agency.
Marcello's family agrees to the deal on one condition: the agency must have an office in Rome. Sylvie announces the opening of the Italian branch and appoints Emily as its head.
What Will 'Emily in Paris' Season 5 Be About?
The main intrigue of the new season is whether Emily will stay in Paris or move to Rome permanently. Show creator Darren Star announced that Emily will split her time between the two cities in the new episodes and isn't planning on choosing one over the other.
A love triangle will likely be one of the main storylines, as Emily's heart once again finds itself torn between two young men: Marcello and Gabriel, the latter of whom followed her to Rome in the Season 4 finale.
Managing the Italian office will play a major role in the plot, so we'll meet new characters, including Emily's colleagues and clients.
The series may temporarily shift to China, as Emily's best friend Mindy has been offered a judging position on the popular Chinese show Chinese Pop Star. This hasn't been confirmed, but Star reports that Mindy will definitely appear in the new season.
However, viewers will likely no longer see Alfie, Emily's ex-boyfriend. Alfie meets with Emily in the final episodes of Season 4 and says he's in a new, serious relationship.
