Neflix’s hit fantasy drama got a new character from Celtic mythology in its second season, and Game of Thrones’ fans might have recognized him in a heartbeat. Here’s everything you need to know about The Sandman’s Puck and the actor who plays him.

Even though Netflix’s The Sandman is just about to wrap its story for good, Neil Gaiman’s vast comic book series has yet a lot to offer when fans are done with the show’s second season.

Mostly relying on Greek mythology, The Sandman follows the Endless and their everyday routine, drawing parallels with Greek gods on the way; however, it’s not only the Greek culture that comes in handy in Gaiman’s lore.

Particularly, those familiar with Celtic culture and mythology weren’t confused when the TV series introduced Puck. However, Game of Thrones’ diehard fans weren’t confused either when they recognised one of the epic drama’s most memorable actors.

The Sandman’s Puck Is Portrayed by Game of Thrones’ Jack Gleeson

The actor, who is mostly known for his role of Joffrey Baratheon in HBO’s Game of Thrones, first joined The Sandman’s cast last year and was introduced as yet another villain in the show’s second season, the first part of which was released on July 3.

In both the original comic books and the TV adaptation, Puck is a mischievous, yet charming fairy-like character inspired by Celtic mythology. He’s also believed to be a prankster or trickster who can change shapes depending on the situation.

In the comic book, Puck is inspired by the character of the same name from Shakespeare's “A Midsummer Night's Dream”.

The TV series, however, depicts him slightly differently as The Sandman’s showrunner Allan Heinberg earlier revealed that Jack Gleeson’s Puck would be a much more psychologically complex and villainously charming version of the character.

Jack Gleeson Didn’t Watch ‘Game of Thrones’ Last Season

It might be fair for the actor to stick to his character and step away from Westeros’ cruel world once Joffrey was gone, but Gleeson is also likely to be the only one to not have an opinion on Game of Thrones’ controversial season 8 — just because he didn’t watch it.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2022, the actor revealed that most of his friends were frustrated by how the series ended, though he himself couldn’t agree or disagree.

“Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I don't have one personally. That's not a political answer. I just didn't watch it”, Gleeson said.

When Will ‘The Sandman’ Finale Be Released?

The show’s season 2 part 2 will be available for streaming on Netflix on July 24.
