First Look at Jacob Elordi in Del Toro’s 'Frankenstein' — A Role That Almost Went to Someone Else

The first images blend horror and beauty in eerie balance.
For those waiting on Frankenstein as eagerly as I am, the long-anticipated first images have finally arrived. And while they don’t give everything away (thankfully), they do just enough to stir the imagination.
Jacob Elordi plays the Monster, stepping into a role that, as it turns out, almost went to Andrew Garfield. Elordi joined just 9 weeks before filming, stepping in after a last-minute casting shake-up.
Suprising twist for me! But now that he’s here, it’s hard not to be curious about what he’ll bring to such an iconic figure.
The images, shared by Vanity Fair, offer only a glimpse — but enough to suggest something eerie and poetic. Del Toro describes this version of the creature as a shattered statue from antiquity, pieced back together. It's a striking idea, and unmistakably his. Del Toro’s take on horror is always worth a closer look.
The film, backed by Netflix, runs 2 hours and 29 minutes and boasts an R rating for 'bloody violence and grisly images.' Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, Charles Dance and Ralph Ineson round out the cast. With that lineup and del Toro behind the camera, expectations are understandably high.
As for me, I’ll be watching — partly for the atmosphere, partly for Mia Goth (obviously), and definitely to see Elordi in a role far from anything we’ve seen from him before.
