Stop washing extra side dishes and try this genius low-oil comfort hack that packs a juicy, cheesy centerpiece inside a fluffy potato ring.

If you are completely checked out on standard meatballs and dry meatloaves, this spectacular oven-baked shortcut is about to seriously rescue your weeknight dinner rotation. This clever recipe takes simple, everyday ingredients like ground meat, potatoes, and onions, and completely reimagines them into striking, individual "nests."

Here’s what you need: 650 g of potatoes, 300 g of ground meat, 1 onion, 2 cloves of garlic, 1.5 tablespoons of tomato paste, 1 egg, 1 heaped tablespoon of flour, 20–30 g of cheese, 1.5 tablespoons of vegetable oil, salt, black pepper, paprika, and meat seasoning to taste.

Boil the potatoes until tender, mash them, and let them cool slightly. Add the egg, salt, and flour, then mix well until smooth.

Finely chop the onion and garlic and fry in vegetable oil until soft. Add the ground meat and cook, breaking up any clumps with a spatula. When the meat is almost done, add the tomato paste, paprika, meat seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir and heat through for another couple of minutes. If the tomato paste seems too sour, add a small pinch of sugar.

With wet hands, shape the potato mixture into round patties and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make a well in the center of each one and fill it with the meat filling. Sprinkle with grated cheese if you like.

Bake at 180°C for about 15 minutes until lightly golden. Serve hot, while the filling is still juicy and flavorful.
