Tim Burton’s movies are a frequent option when it comes to Halloween watch, but he has an animated masterpiece that matches perfectly with the scariest night of the year — and it’s not Corpse Bride.

The ongoing spooky season is about to come to its end tonight, so fans of the horror genre should make sure they’ve revisited their favorites (or maybe some new horrifying flicks) throughout the entire month.

While some are leaving something genuinely terrifying for tonight, others are planning to go with something easier on their nerves — for me, the best Halloween night always goes hand in hand with Tim Burton’s animated classics.

With time, however, the director’s Corpse Bride took the reign over the rest of his works in animation, with the movie joining long lists of those flicks that everyone should check out during Halloween.

Instead, I suggest you watch (or revisit) Burton’s pure Halloween story — with a sprinkle of upcoming Christmas vibes.

‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ Is Even More “Halloween-y” Than ‘Corpse Bride’

While Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride is more like a dedication to the Gothic genre, which can’t go without a couple of jump-scares anyway, 1993’s The Nightmare Before Christmas puts the entire Halloween story in the centre of its plot.

The movie follows now major pop-cultural animated figure Jack Skellington who is sick and tired of celebrating death and gore in a small town with a symbolic name Halloweentown.

Having discovered that there are other major celebrations going on in the world every year, the town’s beloved pumpkin king accidentally finds himself in Christmastown, mesmerized by its bright colors and cheerful citizens.

However, Skellington comes up with a wicked scheme to kidnap Santa and take the entire control over the preparations for Christmas, resulting in messy consequences for both worlds.

Tim Burton Deserves to Be Credited for ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’

Like any other horror-ish movie developed by Burton, The Nightmare Before Christmas hides an important message under the layers of Christmas lights and Halloween skeletons, with that suggesting everyone should do what they’re meant to and embrace their own identity, coming to appreciate what they have in life.

The movie is often wrongfully associated with Burton’s directing due to its striking visuals that remind viewers of other projects helmed by the director, though in this case Burton was only producing, with Henry Selick coming on board as the director.

Still, it’s weird to think Tim Burton doesn’t belong to the story directly — The Nightmare Before Christmas’ plot is based on Burton’s poem of the same name.
