Forget ‘Titanic’, This Is the Leonardo DiCaprio Movie He Loves Watching the Most

Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-winning drama is Leonardo DiCaprio’s personal favorite, and we totally get it.
Despite currently boasting of only one Oscar win, Leonardo DiCaprio has had a long list of performances that deserved that statuette more than anything else.
First nominated for Best Supporting Actor in What's Eating Gilbert Grape at the age of 19, DiCaprio went on to receive five more nods from the Academy, eventually winning the award for 2015’s The Revenant.
However, DiCaprio’s own favorite work is actually the one he notoriously never got the much-deserved Oscar for, and it’s all due to his double role on the production set.
Leonardo DiCaprio Says He Watches ‘The Aviator’ More Frequently Than His Other Movies
- On Rotten Tomatoes, The Aviator holds scores of 86% and 79% from critics and audiences
- On IMDb, the movie is rated 7.5/10
Just like most of his fans that can actually relate to the matter, Leonardo DiCaprio feels like Martin Scorsese’s biopic is what he cherishes the most for many reasons.
As the actor has revealed recently, he prefers to stay away from his own movies while choosing what to watch, but The Aviator has this special magnitude for DiCaprio who had been obsessed with the movie’s storyline back in the day.
“I rarely watch any of my films, but if I’m being honest, there’s one that I have watched more than others. It’s The Aviator. That’s simply because it was such a special moment to me”, the actor said in a new Esquire profile, referring to the time when he was preparing for the role of real-life aviator and movie director Howard Hughes.
He then also added that, despite having already worked with Scorsese before, he saw The Aviator as something completely new and fresh because the director wasn’t even supposed to helm it in the first place.
“I had worked with Marty [Scorsese] on Gangs of New York, and I’d been toting around a book on Howard Hughes for ten years. I almost did it with Michael Mann, but there was a conflict and I ended up bringing it to Marty”, DiCaprio revealed.
‘The Aviator’ Was the First Movie Leonardo DiCaprio Ever Produced
After years that he has already spent in the industry by that time, the actor felt like he could become something more than just “an actor hired to play a role”, so no wonder The Aviator holds a special place in his heart as his first ever producing project.
“I felt responsible in a whole new way. I’ve always felt proud and connected to that film as such a key part of my growing up in this industry and taking on a role of a real collaborator for the first time”, the actor added.
Despite not grossing that much in the box office, The Aviator became a critical darling and went on to win five Oscars out of eleven nominations, with Cate Blanchett taking the award for Best Supporting Actress.
