From Sheldon’s Lab to Multiverse Madness: New 'Big Bang' Spin-Off Greenlit by HBO Max

Chuck Lorre’s next cosmic comedy.
In line with its namesake, the universe of The Big Bang Theory continues to expand, now venturing into new cosmic territory. HBO Max has officially greenlit Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, a comedy series centered on Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman), the comic book shop owner who played a heavily recurring role on the original CBS hit. The show is created by Big Bang co-creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, along with Zak Penn. Unlike the original series and its spin-offs — Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage —this new series will blend comedy with a strong sci-fi element, exploring multiverse chaos and alternate realities.
This marks HBO Max’s first series pickup since its rebranding from Max, which officially took effect on Wednesday. Casey Bloys, CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, expressed enthusiasm:
“We’re excited to continue the legacy of The Big Bang Theory. This new chapter wouldn’t be possible without Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, and Zak Penn’s brilliant storytelling and innovative vision.”
Lorre, Prady, and Penn serve as executive producers. Lorre’s production company partners with Warner Bros. TV for production. Warner Bros. Television Group Chairman Channing Dungey expressed excitement: “Chuck and Bill gave us one of the most enduring comedies of our time with The Big Bang Theory, and we’re eager to see this universe grow with this new series. With Zak’s storytelling mastery, fans can expect a fresh twist that captures what they loved about the original.”
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is set to premiere soon on HBO Max.
