If you're really confused about who exactly Richard Speight Jr. portrays on The Winchesters... don't worry, you're not alone.

The Winchesters is finally back from its hiatus, and for the show's cast, the return to the small screen was marked by a little Dean Winchester birthday party thrown by Jensen Ackles. Joined by series stars Drake Rodger, Meg Donnely, Tom Welling and others, Ackles felt he couldn't miss out on one particular OG star — Richard Speight Jr, who guest starred in the episode.

Although only present via video call, Speight Jr. was more than willing to explain his complicated character to anyone (everyone) who was confused. However, it looked like he only made things worse.

"So Gabriel is in Loki 's body, Loki is the original gangster," Speight is heard explaining in the video, which was shared by Drake Rodger on Twitter. "When Gabriel needed to hide, he borrowed Loki's form from Loki."

Sounds reasonable so far? It only gets worse. When asked who his character is in The Winchesters, Speight Jr. (as well as the rest of the cast) came to the conclusion that in the prequel, he portrays Gabriel and Loki at the same time, with the two having some sort of fight over who controls the body.

Even Ackles finally admitted that "there's a lot of turmoil" with Speight Jr.'s character. Tom Welling, who plays Samuel Campbell on the show, looked the most confused after this explanation — and honestly, we understand him.

Things are starting to get interesting on The Winchesters, with Dean now technically alive and Speight Jr. finally appearing in front of the camera, not just behind it. The next episode will premiere on February 7 on The CW.
