It might be time for the Targaryens to recognize a family ability they so far considered weird.

While House of the Dragon ’s next season is cooking more drama up, Game of Thrones ’ lore has more stories to tell, with one of them set to be arriving on the small screens sometime this year.

Another spinoff about the Targaryen dynasty’s ups and downs in its members’ struggle for power, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will follow Ser Duncan the Tall and his square Egg who will later on become Aegon V Targaryen.

The upcoming show is an exciting addition to the existing franchise not only due to its intention to unravel a part of the story that remained a mystery so far, but also because the series will have another major connection to the Targaryens’ lore, expanding the narrative that is so far unfairly overlooked in House of the Dragon.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight Will Introduce Dragon Dreamers

Though the Targaryens are mostly recognized for their unique ability to control the dragons, some of them also have another specific talent which, in most cases, is looked down upon by other members of the family.

Just like not every Targaryen can mount a dragon and thus become a dragonrider, not every one of them can dream about the future, and in both cases the aspects that determine a Targaryen’s ability to ride a dragon or see the future remain unclear.

However, dragonriders are still a much more frequent phenomenon in the dynasty rather than dragon dreamers, something that makes the latter ones a way more mysterious and compelling characters in George Martin ’s fictional universe.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms now is likely to unveil some more details about the whole matter since, considering the show’s plot, it has no other choice but to introduce Prince Daeron, the oldest brother of Egg, and Daemon II Blackfyre, Daemon I Blackfyre’s oldest son who tried to usurp the Iron Throne.

In George Martin’s Fire & Blood, both characters are known as dragon dreamers who could see what the future holds, an ability that later on had a huge impact on Daeron and Daemon’s downfall.

Despite having a major advantage, Daeron and Daemon used their unique ability in a very wrong way.

Daeron had it quite clear that many things he saw in his dreams actually became true, which eventually resulted in his fear of his own visions and led him to a drinking problem that partially caused his death; Daemon, in his turn, opted for interpreting his dreams only for his own good, seeing them as signs for him to become the King, though they actually meant nothing but his eventual downfall.

In House of the Dragon, Helaena Targaryen uses her power with much more wisdom, analysing everything that’s happening around her and layering it upon the prophecies she sees in her dreams.

However, this still doesn’t guarantee her a deserved recognition from her family who mostly thinks about her as an outcast rather than someone who can play a key role in foreseeing the outcome of the war between the Blacks and the Greens.

That’s what House of the Dragon’s second season was up to, but things might be different when the war is kicked off in the upcoming third instalment.
