There’s a reason to hope that the new show won’t repeat Game of Thrones’ fate.

George Martin ’s The Winds of Winter might take a little more time to get to its finish line as the author dived deep into watching his other story being brought to the screen. Game of Thrones ’ prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has been in the works since last year and now is almost ready for the potential viewers to check it out, as Martin confirmed the other day.

Based on the writer’s Tales of Dunk and Egg, the series comes as yet another follow-up to the main story from HBO after House of the Dragon, though this time there’s little controversy to expect, and George Martin might have just confirmed it himself.

George Martin Praised A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in His Blog

Just on January 28, Game of Thrones’ creator took to his personal blog raving about the upcoming prequel and stating that the team “wrapped the first season months ago and moved right on to post-production.”

Talking about the series itself, Martin revealed he had already seen the majority of the first instalment’s episodes (since the last two of them are still in post-production) and couldn’t be happier about how his story had turned out on the screen.

The author continued, giving even more praise to the future show by saying that “Dunk and Egg have always been favorites of mine, and the actors we found to portray them are just incredible.”

What was likely to cheer Game of Thrones’ fans up was Martin’s confession of his own feelings towards A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in regard to its accurate portrayal of the source material’s events and characters.

“It’s as faithful as adaptation as a reasonable man could hope for (and you all know how incredible reasonable I am on that particular subject),” the author said.

This is in fact an indication that things might change in Game of Thrones’ cinematic universe, since George Martin didn’t really shy away from criticising both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon’s radical plot changes.

George Martin Has Had a Long Feud With His TV Adaptations

With both of his major written works being misrepresented on the screen, George Martin has repeatedly slammed Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon’s creators for altering the plot and thus deliberately distancing the TV version from its literary roots.

“No matter how major a writer it is, no matter how great the book, there always seems to be someone on hand who thinks he can do better, eager to take the story and “improve” on it. “The book is the book, the film is the film,” they will tell you, as if they were saying something profound. Then they make the story their own,” the writer lamented around a year ago in his blog.

As if trying to send a message to both shows’ writers and producers, Martin concluded his thought by making it clear that “They never make it better. Nine hundred ninety-nine times out of a thousand, they make it worse.”
