George Martin Hits Back at Fans Over ‘The Winds of Winter’: “I Don’t Give a Sh*t About Writing”

The feud between Game of Thrones’ fans and A Song of Ice and Fire’s author George Martin has suddenly reached its climax when, it seems, the latter has finally had enough. Here’s what George Martin ranted about in his personal blog.
Those waiting for George Martin’s “The Winds of Winter” to drop have been sick and tired of constant delays, but the author has just made it clear he’s sick and tired of his fans too.
It’s been more than six years since the release of Game of Thrones’ final season 8 and more than ten since Martin published “A Song of Ice and Fire”’s latest novel “A Dance with Dragons”.
However, the next instalment titled “The Winds of Winter” has been delayed for way more than it was supposed to, with fans slamming Martin and speculating about possible reasons for the author’s procrastination.
All the backlash suddenly backfired when Martin confronted his own fans in his personal blog recently, proving that he’s been well aware of all the nasty comments written about him.
George Martin Slams Fans Back for Hating “Everything Else I Have Ever Written”
A new wave of backlash towards “A Song of Ice and Fire”’s author sparked when Martin was announced as one of the producers for a future animated movie titled A Dozen Tough Jobs, which has nothing to do with Game of Thrones’ world whatsoever.
The writer’s fans took the news with yet another outburst of anger, stating that Martin would do anything just to not finish at least “The Winds of Winter” — the author’s harsh response came quite soon after that.
“Some of you will just be pissed off by this, as you are by everything I announce here that is not about Westeros or THE WINDS OF WINTER. You have given up on me, or on the book. I will never finish WINDS, If I do, I will never finish A DREAM OF SPRING. If I do, it won’t be any good. [...] I am going to die soon anyway, because I am so old. I lost all interest in A Song of Ice and Fire decades ago. I don’t give a sh*t about writing any longer, I just sit around and spend my money. I edit the Wild Cards books too, but you hate Wild Cards. You don’t care about any of those, I know. You don’t care about anything but WINDS OF WINTER. You’ve told me so often enough,” Martin wrote in his personal blog.
He also added that Game of Thrones’ fans have been delusional enough stating that the author didn’t care about “A Song of Ice and Fire” anymore.
He then specified that “I care about Westeros and WINDS as well. The Starks and Lannisters and Targaryens, Tyrion and Asha, Dany and Daenerys, the dragons and the direwolves, I care about them all. More than you can ever imagine”.
George Martin Is Saddened ‘A Dozen Tough Jobs’ Doesn’t Get a Deserved Reaction
After getting it all off his chest, the author addressed the issue his fans had with A Dozen Tough Jobs in particular. He said that the future movie doesn’t deserve to be treated like this and be referred to only as something that deprives Game of Thrones’ fans of long-awaited “The Winds of Winter”.
“I loved “A Dozen Tough Jobs” the first time I read it, ages ago. I loved Howard too. It saddens me that he did not live long enough to see the film; I hope we do him justice. How can we not? Hercules, Howard, Joe, Lion Forge… I wish you all could share my excitement at the prospect of this movie”, Martin continued in his blog.
The movie, in the meantime, is set to be based on Howard Waldrop’s novella of the same name which retells the Twelve Labors of Hercules.
