George Martin Produced Crime Series Just Returned With Season 3 – It Already Has 100% on RT

The show is based on the famous series of novels, George R.R. Martin is one of the executive producers, and all three seasons have never received a score below 100% – what are you waiting for?
Have you ever seen a show that has a 100% perfect Rotten Tomatoes score for each of its three seasons? It exists, and it's Dark Winds, based on the Leaphorn & Chee novel series by Tony Hillerman, which returned for a third season on March 9.
The writers are all Native American, so we may have one of the most authentic TV projects out there.
What Is Dark Winds About?
A police duo investigates a crime on an Indian reservation in the 1970s. A helicopter carrying criminals transporting stolen gold crashes on Navajo land.
This event triggers a chain of dangerous situations in which local residents find themselves involved. Police officers Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee will have to face many moral dilemmas and past traumas.
Dark Winds Is Based on a Famous Series of Novels
The first novel in the Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee series, The Blessing Way, was published in 1970. The author, Tony Hillerman, grew up among the Potawatomi Indians in Oklahoma.
Hillerman ended up writing about Leaphorn and his partner Jim Chee until his death – the last book was published in 2006, and then the author's daughter continued the work.
The AMC Series Is Not the First Adaptation of Hillerman's Books
In 1991, a movie titled The Dark Wind was produced by Robert Redford, who had long been interested in Indian affairs and had even made a documentary about Leonard Peltier.
The film was supposed to be a breakthrough and was directed by the great documentary filmmaker Errol Morris. However, the producer and director had a falling out and Redford's plans for the franchise did not come to fruition.
Ten years later, the TV film Skinwalkers was released, based on a script by James Redford. The movie made the screenwriter think again about adapting Hillerman's novels.
In 2022 the series Dark Winds was released on AMC, the very first credit of which reads – Executive Producers Robert Redford and George R.R. Martin. The famous author even made a cameo appearance in the series – in one of the episodes, he can be seen behind bars in a police station.
Dark Winds Is a Binge-Worthy Show Compared to Twin Peaks
Dark Winds is addictive from the very first episode. Endless prairies, unusual time flow, bright characters and real black magic. The show is already being compared to Twin Peaks – perhaps prematurely, but not without reason.
And this is just the beginning – Dark Winds has already been renewed for a fourth season. Considering that Hillerman has written several dozen novels about his characters, it is quite possible that Leaphorn and Chee will be with us for a very long time.
Where to Watch Dark Winds?
