George Martin’s Winds of Winter Update from 2 Years Ago Sounds Like a Really Bad Omen Now
The writer’s ambitious plans for A Song of Ice and Fire just went too far.
George Martin ’s two final installments for A Song of Ice and Fire book series have been late for more than a decade, but, as it turns out, we were all wrong about the biggest problem that keeps the author away from finally finishing the story.
Game of Thrones ’ fans spent years wondering whether Martin indeed lacked ideas for what would come next or just abandoned the idea seeing no use in something that should have been there for a long time now. In fact, none of that might be true, and the writer doesn’t have any trouble with the future book’s plot — he probably just writes too much.
George Martin’s The Winds of Winter Already Has Whooping 1100 Pages
By the time he had an interview with Business Insider back in 2023, Martin was fully aware of him being more than a decade late with The Winds of Winter.
“I have like 1,100 pages written but I still have hundreds more pages to go. It’s a big mother of a book for whatever reason. Maybe I should’ve started writing smaller books when I began this, but it’s tough.”
Given that earlier Martin also shared some insights into his ambitious plans for The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring saying that he was planning to write at least 3000 pages for two final books in total, it does seem like he’s in fact pretty close to the end of the first one. Yet still, a book of 1500 pages is quite an intimidating entertainment that might turn out to be a challenge even for Game of Thrones’ most die-hard fans.
The Winds of Winter 2-Year-Old Update Probably Means A Dream of Spring Is Already Doomed
Considering that 2 years ago Martin had that much of an already written material and still wasn’t done with the first book, it might be true that A Dream of Spring will take even longer to be finished or rather will never see the light after all.
A Song of Ice and Fire’s last two chapters definitely have a lot to say since many characters killed off in the show are still alive in the books, including Daenerys who is more than determined to return the Iron Throne to her family.
Alternatively, once the long-suffering sixth book is complete, A Dream of Spring is likely to become a much easier task, yet fans now would rather opt for not feeding their delusions that much.
