Ginny & Georgia season 4 release date: filming wrapped months ago, so why is Netflix making you wait until 2027?
The season is shot, the editors are editing, the cliffhanger is radioactive — and Netflix just told everyone to come back next year anyway.
Here's a math problem for you. Ginny & Georgia season 4 started filming in Toronto in October 2025. By late May 2026 it had wrapped — Nathan Mitchell, who plays Zion, confirmed it outright:
"We filmed it, it's wrapped, we're editing."
And yet when Netflix laid out its slate, the show was nowhere in 2026. The official answer is now a 2027 release, meaning a season finished in spring will sit on the shelf for the better part of a year while the fandom chews drywall.
Why the wait, actually
Netflix doesn't explain scheduling, but the logic isn't mysterious:
- The show is too big to burn off. Season 3 opened with 17.6 million views and debuted at No. 1 on the charts — that's tentpole inventory, and 2026's calendar was already stacked with returning heavyweights.
- The gap is on-brand. Seasons 2, 3, and now 4 have each arrived roughly eighteen months to two years apart; June 2025 to sometime in 2027 is business as usual, just crueler now that everyone knows the episodes physically exist.
- Post-production isn't nothing — but it also isn't eighteen months. Mitchell's "it's cooking" covers the edit, not the wait.
What's sitting in the vault
What makes the delay painful is the cliffhanger inventory. Season 3 ended with Georgia acquitted (thanks to Austin perjuring himself on the stand), pregnant, and — per Netflix's own season 4 synopsis — broke again, with a paternity question mark hanging between Paul and Joe and strange happenings hinting that her past isn't willing to stay buried. Creator Sarah Lampert says she knows who the father is and has already changed her mind once, which is exactly the energy this show runs on.
Black Mirror season 8 release date: it's renewed and already filming
The season's stated theme is "Cycles and Origins," showrunner Sarah Glinski has promised viewers will finally meet Georgia's extended family, and Lampert is pitching a lighter, more hopeful tone after season 3's darkness. Scott Porter, meanwhile, has described the season 4 ending as "bittersweet" and confirmed tears were shed at the wrap — all of it locked in an editing bay until 2027, date TBD.
