Wednesday season 3 release date and cast: Winona Ryder is back with Tim Burton for 2027
Netflix's biggest show is skipping a year, and the cast list it's assembling in the meantime reads like a goth family reunion four decades in the making.
The bad news is official: there is no Wednesday in 2026. Netflix left the show off its 2026 slate entirely, and every reliable read of the production calendar points to a premiere in 2027 — likely summer or fall, given that filming only wraps this autumn. Season 3 has been shooting since February in Dublin, County Wicklow, and Paris, a run stretched by script rewrites and by Eva Green's on-set leg injury in June.
The good news is who's on the call sheet. Winona Ryder has joined the season in a role Netflix refuses to describe, which makes this her fifth collaboration with Tim Burton — the run that started with Beetlejuice in 1988 and ran through Edward Scissorhands, Frankenweenie, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. It also reunites her with Jenna Ortega, who played her daughter in that last one. Burton, who returns to direct, sounds like a man who knows exactly what he's assembled:
"The addition of some dear friends and past collaborators makes this season extra special."
The family plot thickens
Season 2 ended with the show's darkest cliffhanger yet — Enid loose in permanent werewolf form, and a warning scrawled about Wednesday's survival — and season 3 digs straight into the Frump family crypt:
- Eva Green as Ophelia, Morticia's long-lost sister, the season's ticking bomb
- Winona Ryder, Chris Sarandon, and Noah Taylor in roles the showrunners are keeping sealed — their words: lips "stitched shut about the nefarious roles"
- Lena Headey, Andrew McCarthy, and James Lance reported among the additions
- The returning core: Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Emma Myers
Showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have promised the season will excavate "long-rotting Addams Family secrets", with Gough floating that it may be the darkest chapter yet.

The math on the wait
Wednesday's seasons now arrive on a stately cadence: season 1 in November 2022, season 2 in August 2025, season 3 in 2027. For a show that remains Netflix's most-watched English-language series ever, that's two years minimum between visits to Nevermore — a gap Netflix is papering over with exactly one confirmed fact and a locked casting vault. Filming wraps in the coming weeks; a date announcement won't come until well into next year.
