Del Toro’s highly anticipated horror movie is coming to streaming soon, and Frankenstein’s first reviews suggest you should watch it no matter what.

The Halloween night might be over, but there’s something else horror-ish coming to global streaming just in time for a cozy night at home during this chilly time.

While it has already opened in select theatres to raving reviews, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is yet to be released on Netflix next week, marking the director’s first movie since 2022’s Oscar-winning Pinocchio.

It took a whopping amount of time for del Toro to develop the movie and release it decades after having started working on it, although at some point the director’s plan for Frankenstein went beyond just one film.

When Is ‘Frankenstein’ Coming to Netflix?

  • On Rotten Tomatoes, Frankenstein holds scores of 85% and 95% from critics and audiences
  • On IMDb, the movie is rated 7.8/10

Frankenstein will be released on Netflix next Friday, November 7.

The movie stars Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi as Victor Frankenstein and The Creature respectively, also boasting of some other notable names in the supporting cast like Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, Charles Dance and Ralph Ineson.

Frankenstein adapts the plot of Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel of the same name, following mad scientist Victor Frankenstein whose egoistical nature results in the creation of a pure monster that eventually embarks on its own adventure, leading to the inevitable downfall of both the master and the creature.

Both critics and the viewers who got to see Frankenstein in theatres spoke highly of del Toro’s new movie, praising the directing, the script and Jacob Elordi’s masterful portrayal of The Creature.

“In high Gothic style, the story of the mad scientist and his hideous creation has never been more visually sumptuous. With terrific performances to boot, del Toro’s long-awaited film is the definitive movie version of the classic novel”, Washington City Paper’s Alan Zilberman wrote about Frankenstein.

“One of the best movies I’ve seen this year. This movie is not just about a monster. It’s about love, forgiveness and redemption. Spectacular sets and acting. The casting was on point!” user Maria Esteva revealed on Rotten Tomatoes’ website.

Guillermo del Toro Initially Envisioned Two Movies for ‘Frankenstein’

Considering that the movie’s development took del Toro around 30 years, no wonder the director thought about giving its idea all kinds of different forms.

In an interview with Variety back in August, del Toro revealed that, while he never wanted Frankenstein to be a miniseries, he almost turned the story into two separate movies, with each of those telling different points of view on the same story so that two would contradict each other.

“But I decided it was much better to have a movie where there’s a hinge moment shortly after the creation, where the perspective shifts and you follow the creature in his travels after following Victor for the first part”, del Toro stated.

You can check out Frankenstein on Netflix on November 7.
