The fall of Reach was supposed to be a dramatic battle for every inch of the planet’s surface, but turned into a disappointing mess.

Summary:

  • Following the disappointing first season, the show's creators promised that season 2 would correct the mistakes of its predecessor
  • At first it seemed that way, as it definitely felt like a slight improvement over season 1
  • Unfortunately, the show's take on one of the most important moments in Halo history, the fall of Reach, was nothing short of pathetic

After the extremely underwhelming debut season of the Halo TV series, many fans of the franchise expected the project to be quietly scrapped, but to their surprise, the show was renewed for a second season.

However, it seemed that the show's creators had taken the massive criticism into account, as they promised that season 2 would be a "soft reboot" of sorts, taking the disappointing series back to the franchise's roots.

At first, it appeared that this was indeed the case, as the first few episodes definitely felt like an improvement in many ways, and fans were eagerly anticipating the biggest and potentially coolest moment of the season – the fall of the planet Reach.

Unfortunately, episode 5 immediately dashed their hopes, as the show's creators shamelessly blew the opportunity to portray this incredibly important event with the dignity it deserved.

An Entire Video Game Was Dedicated to Reach’s Fall

Originally, the franchise dedicated an entire game to the fall of the colony, 2010's Halo: Reach, which was a prequel to the main video game series and was full of breathtaking and dramatic moments.

Have you played Halo: Reach?

Over the course of the story, players watched as the planet's defenses were slowly overrun by the Covenant forces, and participated in many exciting missions, culminating in a heartbreaking last stand that brought tears to many fans' eyes.

So when the TV show arrived at the point where Master Chief learned that the enemy had infiltrated Reach, fans expected to see the epic battle for every inch of the planet's surface in all its glory.

The Show Failed to Live up to Expectations

Sadly, the fall of Reach was a massive disappointment, as the show treated the planet as a random world rather than the stronghold of humanity it was supposed to be, thus depriving fans of the epic battle.

Worst of all, the actual fall of the planet's defenses and its destruction happened entirely off-screen, with Master Chief lying unconscious for several days after being injured halfway through the sequence.

Fans are not holding back in expressing their utter disappointment, as the fall of Reach should have taken up at least half of the season's running time.

This unfortunate turn of events only proved that trying to fix the Halo TV series was a hopeless idea in the first place.

Episode 6 of season 2 will premiere on March 7, 2024.
