After all this time? Always.

Summary:

  • Harry Potter star, Miriam Margolyes, has recently stated that adult fans of the franchise should “grow up”, as the magic film series is “for children”.
  • It has evoked lots of the fandom members’ objections, to which joined another Harry Potter actress, Jessie Cave, who voiced an opposite opinion.

Since airing of the first Harry Potter movie in 2001, the franchise’s fandom has been growing enormously, and those who read J.K.Rowling’s books and followed the releases of the movies year by year, are now highly supported by a younger generation of fans.

However, even not all Harry Potter actors are enthusiastic about the idea of being in the fandom for nearly a quarter of the century. The reason for such a discussion this March became an interview with Miriam Margolyes, the experienced actress, who played Professor Pomona Sprout, Hogwarts’ Professor of Herbology in the magic movie series.

Margolyes called out the adults, who still adore the franchise, rewatch it and take part in its chats, thematic events and other fan activities, claiming this obsession is concerning due to the current age of people who grow up alongside Harry Potter’s characters.

“They should be over that by now, you know, I mean, it was 25 years ago, and it’s for children,” stated the actress, describing her strongly negative impression about the adults, who still have the passion for the Harry Potter movies in their lives.

Such a shocking statement couldn’t go unnoticed, and the response from other members of the franchise’s cast was quick enough. At a recent Harry Potter fan convention, Jessie Cave, who portrayed Lavender Brown, Ron’s irritating girlfriend from the Half-Blood Prince movie, expressed her objection to her colleague’s words.

Commenting on it, the actress stated she was quite disappointed at hearing Margolyes’ unexpected skepticism, as she considers the growth of the fandom both in its quantity and the age of the large part of its members a sign of the movies’ timelessness.

“It’s such an amazing thing that Harry Potter has done. It’s created a fan base that has aged and is still bonded through it, and it’s passed on to younger generations, and that’s what is so amazing,” concludes Cave, standing against such neglecting the adult fanbase.

As for the fans’ response, they obviously share her opinion, dropping some jokes about how being in a fandom reflects on your adult life.

“And I shouldn't have kept trying to wield the Force well into my 30s but here we are,” writes Redditor @jl_theprofessor.

It seems that this discussion can be a great reason to take a pause from your daily routine and pretend to be the very children Margolyes is talking about by rewatching the whole magic franchise, which is available on Prime.
