Being famous as a singer, Harry Styles also built an acting career with some major credits in his filmography — but not all of them were a stunning success.

Summary:

  • Though Harry Styles may be mostly famous for his singing career, he also managed to prove himself as a good actor by landing several roles in Hollywood’s major films.
  • Despite most of his movies’ success with critics or at least viewers, one of them became mostly a disappointment, though now it’s available for streaming on Hulu.
  • The film with Harry Styles in one of the leading roles follows a married couple whose relationships get to the brink of being ruined after the wife becomes suspicious about her husband’s secretive job.

Harry Styles may have significantly boosted his flourishing solo career due to being a part of the boy band One Direction till 2016, but many can also know him as an actor.

Having had an epic start from a big role in Christopher Nolan ’s Dunkirk back in 2017, Styles later appeared in the MCU ’s Eternals and a romantic drama My Policeman.

And though the singer has so far had quite a positive welcome in the acting world with all his roles in major Hollywood projects, one of Styles’ movies didn’t end up being yet another hit — and this film was quietly added on Hulu a couple of weeks ago.

Don’t Worry Darling was released back in 2022 with a star-studded cast that, except for Styles himself, includes Florence Pugh, Gemma Chan and Chris Pine with Olivia Wilde also having a role and directing at the same time.

Before it hit the cinemas and then Prime Video, Don’t Worry Darling became one of the most anticipated (and scandalous) movies of the year with a big premiere at the Venice International Film Festival — but eventually the film’s primary success faded away.

The plot follows Jack and Alice, portrayed by Pugh and Styles respectively, who live their happy life in a small, yet idealistic town in the 1950. Alice has no idea about her husband’s occupation as Jack works in some secretive establishment and never shares any details with his wife — and the latter seems to be fine with it until one day she notices their neighbors’ weird behavior.

After some clearly abnormal things that Alice sees in her own house, she embarks on a mission to find out what her husband is up to and whether all these oddities are somehow connected to it.

Despite the highest expectations, the film didn’t do as well as it was supposed to, yet didn’t get to be a total failure either. In the box office Don’t Worry Darling grossed around $85 million with the initial budget of $20-35 million and thus didn’t become a hit, but at least broke even.

The critics were harsher though — and the movie ended up with no more than 38% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The best news for the film in this case was that the viewers actually liked it and gave it a solid 74%.

Don’t Worry Darling can now be streamed on Hulu.
