A new tweet from James Gunn sheds light on the actor's current status within the cinematic universe.

With the recent news of the major overhaul of the DC Extended Universe under James Gunn, many fans were understandably upset when it was revealed that Henry Cavill would not be reprising his role as Superman.

But recent updates regarding the actor's status in the cinematic universe may bring them some measure of satisfaction.

Considered by many to be the face of the DCEU, Henry Cavill donned the iconic red cape in 2013's Man of Steel, the first installment of a newborn cinematic universe.

Directed by Zack Snyder, the film served as an origin story for the world-famous superhero and became the highest-grossing solo Superman film of all time, despite a mixed reception from critics.

However, the audience response was ultimately much warmer, further establishing Henry as a new iteration of Superman.

He later reprised his role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2019), seemingly leaving no doubt that he will continue to shine in future films.

Unfortunately, with James Gunn taking control of the cinematic universe, it was confirmed that the actor would be recast as Superman.

This shocking turn of events came in the midst of rumors about Henry starring in a Man of Steel sequel, adding insult to injury.

However, after being asked by a fan on Twitter about Cavill possibly starring as Frankenstein in a new vision of the DCEU, Gunn confirmed that he had discussed other roles with Henry.

"Its on various news sites & I was asked about it. You might consider that this bile you think comes off in my post has more to do with your framing than what I'm actually saying. I've said in the past we've discussed other roles with Henry – just Frankenstein is not one of them," James said.

This response makes it clear that James Gunn and Peter Safran are open to the possibility of bringing Henry back as part of a new era of the DCEU.

Considering the amount of characters in the comic universe, the possibilities are endless and fans can only hope that the negotiations will end positively as soon as possible.
