We don’t need The Witcher to watch Cavill chop his enemies’ heads with a sword.

After a ridiculously unfortunate big IP run so far, it would’ve only made sense for Henry Cavill to give up on trusting showrunners and movie directors. But the man keeps going, diving into every one of his favorite franchises he can reach, and soon enough, we’ll see him take over two more cult-classic stories he’s in love with.

With Warhammer 40K, Cavill is rumored to be completely in charge, so that sounds safe. It’s not much different with Highlander where he’ll work with Chad Stahelski.

Highlander Begins Filming in a Few Months

Just like the WH40K adaptation, the Highlander reboot has been in talks for several years now, with the only details known to the public are the identities of its director and lead star. With them being John Wick ’s Chad Stahelski and Man of Steel’s Henry Cavill, the upcoming movie has always sounded like a promise of a good time — but once again, no one knew just when they’d start filming, if ever.

The wait is over now. Recently, Chad Stahelski sat down with Collider and gave an exciting update: the start of principal photography is scheduled, and it’s soon!

“We start shooting in January in Scotland, that's why I go right after I leave. I go to Scotland on Monday to do the final location scout,” the director shared.

We’re exactly half a year away from Highlander finally kicking off, and we’re hyped!

Stahelski Has Concerns About Highlander

While years in the works and talks, there are still some aspects of the reboot that don’t let the director sleep peacefully at night. There’s an abundance of action franchises, and he contributed to that himself, setting a ridiculously high golden standard with his John Wick movies. How can he set Highlander apart from others?

“[My concern is] more about how do you bring it all together and make it something. It's not Princess Bride, it's not Crouching Tiger, it's not Master & Commander, it's not Zorro. What's this new look of action or sword fighting that people could be excited about? That keeps me up at night,” Stahelski admitted in the interview.

Standing out from other franchises can be difficult, but if we know anything about the Highlander reboot, then it’s that with Chad Stahelski, the maestro of action scenes, and Henry Cavill, Hollywood’s most dedicated fencer actor, they’ll make it all right. We’re quite excited for the upcoming movie — and now it’s not too far away, finally!
