Though he does not look the type, Leonardo DiCaprio is actually a huge fan of Star Wars.

There is enough solid, reliable evidence about that. For example, Jonah Hill mentioned how DiCaprio tried to get him into Star Wars when they were meeting during filming of Don't Look Up:

"Leo made me watch The Mandalorian when we were making Don't Look Up, and it was like, Baby Yoda is so cute, but I just don't give a f*** because I didn't know anything that it was about."

However, this raises the question: if DiCaprio loves the franchise, why he never attempted to star in it?

He certainly had plenty of opportunities, even if we consider starring in TV series to be below his pay grade (which, after he became one of top Hollywood stars, it is) – both the prequel and the sequel trilogies were filmed when he was famous enough and active enough as an actor.

DiCaprio Called This Film Most Traumatic of His Career (And No, It's Not Revenant)

Well, there actually are active fan speculations regarding this question, such as the recent discussion on The John Campea Show. But as the participants of that discussion admitted, no one can say anything specific.

Maybe it is the matter of scheduling and availability, as determined by chance and coincidence. Maybe DiCaprio liking Star Wars doesn't mean that he actually wants to be in Star Wars. Maybe he only wants to star in the movies by directors with whom he has a good working relationship, and Martin Scorsese is not interested in directing Star Wars.

Or maybe he is just too big of a star and will start pulling all attention to himself if he is to appear in a major role, and doesn't want to appear in a mere cameo.

So, while Leonardo DiCaprio might have made a great contribution to Star Wars – particularly in a role of a major villain, judging by some of his more famous recent performances, such as Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street – all talks about his appearances in anything related to the franchise so far remain firmly in the realm of speculation and "what ifs".
