Jared Padalecki’s Dean gets a lot of hate from Gilmore Girls fans, but is Jess any better?

Rory Gilmore’s love life is truly a mess, but then again, whose isn’t? Her perfect first boyfriend Dean is actually not that perfect – he is jealous and possessive. Plus, she cheats with him when he is already married.

Rory’s almost-fiancé Logan has been a bad influence on her, too. She isn’t the best version of herself when she is with him, and there’s actually proof. She cheats on her forgotten boyfriend Paul with Logan in the revival show.

Jess seems to be the only guy in Rory’s life who has the audience’s stamp of approval nowadays. The real question is, have you watched the show, and are you sure you remember who Jess is – or rather, was?

One Reddit fan has pointed out that Jess was a horrible boyfriend to Rory when they were both teenagers. He had an attitude about everything, he wasn’t excited to do the things Rory wanted to do together, and he was basically just your run-of-the-mill bad boy, which we can all agree is a turn-off in 2023.

Remember how rude Jess was to Emily and how he got mad at Rory for asking questions about his black eye? Yeah, that happened. Also, Jess left abruptly without any warning whatsoever, came back, told Rory about his feelings for her, and left again. Who even does that?

Jess did grow a lot by his next appearance on the show, and he is just the sweetest in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, and that’s probably the reason fans just straight-up forgot that he used to be problematic. Future Jess is boyfriend material (unlike Logan), but his teen self has never stood a chance.

At some point, Rory was feeling lonely and remembered all the good times she’d had with Dean, which made her come back to him in the first place. Yet, she never did the same with Jess – they had so much build-up to the relationship, but the romance itself ended up being a disappointment for everyone.

If Amy Sherman-Palladino ever does another sequel or revival, here’s hoping that Rory and Jess end up together.
