House of the Dragon Fans, Have You Noticed Ewan Mitchell in Saltburn?

Mitchell is an ominous figure in Game of Thrones’ prequel show, but he’s not less disturbing in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn — you might have not even guessed it was him after all.
House of the Dragon helped Ewan Mitchell rise to stardom thanks to the role of power-greedy Aemond Targaryen, but there’s a chance you could also see him in some other prominent projects.
Coming off the success of Game of Thrones’ prequel series, the actor showed up with a minor role in Emerald Fennell’s viral black comedy starring Barry Keoghan back in 2023.
The movie caused lots of fuss and is still talked about as the audiences remain either stunned or completely repelled.
Ewan Mitchell Was in Saltburn Before House of the Dragon Season 2
Even with a small role that doesn’t go further than the first twenty minutes of the movie, Mitchell made quite a surprise for those waiting for his comeback in House of the Dragon’s second season back then.
Released in November of 2023, Saltburn stars the actor as Michael Gavey, an Oxford student trying to befriend Barry Keoghan’s Oliver when the latter first arrives for studies.
However, Michael is soon nowhere to be found as Oliver strives to get closer to Jacob Elordi’s Felix Catton, a popular rich student who soon invites his new friend to his country house, Saltburn.
This is where the plot line starts swirling, with Oliver becoming more and more obsessed with Felix and the life he gets to live, which soon leads to a series of gruesome tragedies and Oliver’s own happy ending.
What Critics and Viewers Said About Saltburn
- On Rotten Tomatoes, Saltburn holds scores of 71% and 79% from critics and viewers
- On IMDb, the movie is rated 7/10
Fennell’s grotesque black comedy had everyone talking about it back in the day, so it’s fair to say the movie got some grains of bitterness from both critics and audiences, even though it still ended up with mostly favorable reviews.
“Make no mistake, the clever writing is here, as is the style, the sleek technique, and some terrific performances (Rosamund Pike is especially delicious in a supporting role). What’s missing, or muddled, is the message -- and perhaps even more, the heart”, Associated Press’ Jocelyn Noveck wrote.
“Love it or loathe it, Emerald Fennell’s delicious takedown of the upper classes keeps you glued to Barry Keoghan as a poorboy driven to madness and worse by a rich Adonis (Jacob Elordi) and his hilariously vampiric mom (an Oscar-ready Rosamund Pike)”, ABC News’ Peter Travers retorted.
“Confusing, weird, kinda gross. Definitely not the worst thing I've seen this year though, got a few good reactions out of me”, one user wrote on Rotten Tomatoes.
In the meantime, another viewer called Saltburn “a boring story about a bunch of perverts. I could see the ending a mile away”.
