House of the Dragon Star Teases an Exciting Update on Season 3 Start

The show’s second season was expected to feature some major events from George Martin’s book, but was ultimately met with harsh fan backlash.
Now scheduled for a release sometime in 2026, House of the Dragon ’s third season has the show’s fans united in their hope that the next instalment will finally bring the most exciting sequences from George Martin ’s Fire & Blood to the screen.
The previous season premiered last year and was long considered one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2024, though House of the Dragon soon went under fire after fans kept repeatedly slamming the second instalment’s each new episode that, well, didn’t bring a long-promised war between the Targaryens after all.
However, this remains in store for House of the Dragon’s upcoming season 3, and one of the series’ leads might have just confirmed the most exciting scenes’ presence in the first part of the future season.
House of the Dragon’s Abubakar Salim Teases the Battle of the Gullet Scenes Amid Season 3 Production
Alyn of Hull’s actor Abubakar Salim was the first to break the silence about some inner details, posting a short, but catchy phrase that says “Battle of the Gullet is gonna be BEASTLY” in his account on X.
Salim didn’t specify whether his excitement was coming from House of the Dragon’s season 3 script or rather from the Battle of the Gullet’s description that George Martin gives in his Fire & Blood. Though, considering that the show’s next installment production was already supposed to get started, the first option, luckily, might be the more probable one.
Additionally, it is likely safe to presume that the Battle of the Gullet will take place in the next season’s first or second episode since the production so far couldn’t get any further than the first half of the upcoming instalment.
The Battle of the Gullet Was Originally a Part of House of the Dragon’s Season 2
With all that kept in mind, the Battle of the Gullet is likely to become the first big fight between the Greens and the Blacks, with Salim’s Alyn of Hull joining Rhaenyra’s team and ultimately becoming a dragon rider.
The battle, considered one of the bloodiest that George Martin has ever come up with, was fairly expected to become some sort of conclusion for the show’s second season until it was decided to cut House of the Dragon's each new season to 8 episodes instead of 10.
There was a silver lining for HBO in this though, as the company’s Head of Drama Series and Films Francesca Orsi recently revealed that it would be hard for the series’ creators to make a worthy battle sequence on time.
“I don't think we had the time at that point to do what it is that we've achieved now this season”, she stated, adding that the Battle of the Gullet is “so massive, we needed the time to build it”.
