How Agnes DeMille Is Growing on Me, As Well As on ‘Wednesday’ Fandom

Another two-braided girl just added the picture, but will Wednesday be happy about it? So far her hot and cold relationship with a young stalker has been creepy.
Wednesday season 2 added a bunch of new characters, both creepy and seemingly normal, and one of them is Agnes DeMille, a self-proclaimed number one fan of Wednesday.
After the end of summer, when they all came back to Nevermore Academy, Agnes wanted to introduce herself to her idol, but received a stone-cold welcome, if that was even a welcome. That’s when she decided to impress her in another way, and made Wednesday think she had a crazy stalker.
Agnes is a Vanisher, so it means she can be sneaky and appear in places nobody can visit, and that can come handy to Wednesday. And after all, Miss Addams lets her superfan come closer and help with the investigation. For 13-year-old Agnes it’s an achievement, but it’s clear she has a huge crush on Wednesday and is not ready to stop yet.
But it seems that, unlike Wednesday, the show’s fandom seems to have grown attached to the new character!
Agnes DeMille Is One of the Most Tim Burton Character in ‘Wednesday’
On Reddit, Agnes is most frequently described by fans as “a very Tim Burton character”, and that’s true: somehow, she manages to out-creep Wednesday at times. At the same time, she has her own charisma, even though she does look like a Wednesday copycat who decided to embrace some recommendations by Enid. One fan even noted that Agnes gives Luna Lovegood vibes, which I can also agree with.
There is a problem, though. I’ve already described it in my stalker reveal analysis, and I’m still not alone: that reveal was pretty frustrating, and it prevents many fans from fully accepting the character.
“She is … very Tim Burton. Which, like, it’s his show. So. Fair enough. I really WANT to like her. I think I will. I found the reveal to be a bit anti-climactic, but maybe that was on purpose?? To lower our guard against a bigger reveal later?? I really wanna like her, you guys!” said Redditor HestiaWarren.
Not everyone is even mad of Agnes copying Wednesday.
“She's like Wednesday, except younger, more colorful, eccentric, and active. She can be an awesome ally to Wednesday, with her wonderful superpower and awesome tactical skills. I mean, come on, she got Galpin's phone, the plan of Willow Hill, and made that super-cool riddle for Wednesday,” noted Redditor mr_chris_verdi.
But some are annoyed that she seems to be competing with Enid.
“I really despise her being the main sidekick this season, Enid had her own flaws but she was interesting by herself. I don't feel the same about Agnes. I don't hate her character, but I'd be really ok if she had a third of her actual screen time,” Redditor YoungHrn said.
Some fans who have already accepted Agnes as their favorite new character dread that the creators will eventually make her an antagonist, even though I think that’s unlikely at this point.
Wednesday season 2 volume 2 will premiere on September 3 on Netflix — we will see who was right then.
