How does Sterling Point end? A guide to the Prime Video finale, that full-circle last scene, and what creator Megan Park has said about season 2.
Sterling Point ends exactly where it began: Annie's obscenely nice New York bedroom, morning light, curtains drawn back on the Manhattan skyline. Except the girl waking up in it is Ramona.
The great sister swap
That's the finale's big move. After eight episodes of buried secrets — the sister nobody mentioned, the paternity bomb, the mother everyone lied about — the siblings simply trade lives:
- Ramona leaves the island for New York to actually get to know Steven, the biological father she just acquired;
- Annie stays in Sterling Point, moves into her grandfather's cabin, and closes the season with a jump off the dock into the lake;
- Connor gets the cliffhanger: a call from the adoption agency saying his and Annie's birth mother wants to reconnect. He hasn't told Annie he was even looking.
The lake jump is the final scene of the season, and it's doing a lot: Annie choosing the place her mother loved over the life she was supposed to want.
This was always the plan
None of this was a shrug of an ending. Creator Megan Park says she envisioned the swap as the season's destination from the start, and she's been openly talking about it as a launchpad. As she put it to Deadline, the sisters trading places, if the show gets renewed:
"…sets us up for like a really great jumping off point."
She's also floated picking season 2 up the following summer — new year, same lake, two girls who've spent nine months becoming different people. Amazon hasn't officially renewed it yet, but the show left the door so wide open it's basically a screened porch.
