How many seasons will Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation have? The novels finished years ago, so the maths can actually be done
Most long-running anime can't answer this question, because nobody knows how much source material is still coming. This one can, because the source material stopped six years ago.
Rifujin na Magonote's light novel series ended with volume 26 in November 2022, and the author has since said there will be no sequel novels. Studio Bind — the outfit White Fox and Egg Firm set up specifically to make this show — has adapted that material at a pace you can measure. Season 1 covered volumes 1 through 6 across 23 episodes, split into two parts in 2021. Season 2 covered volumes 7 through 12 across 25 episodes, split across 2023 and 2024. Two seasons, twelve volumes, 48 episodes. That works out to exactly four episodes per volume.
Where season 3 sits
Season 3 began on 4 July 2026 from volume 13 and runs 14 episodes, with the finale on 27 September 2026 — this coming Sunday at the time of writing. It's the first run in the franchise without a mid-season break, which is why it looks shorter than its predecessors while actually airing more episodes in a row than either half of seasons 1 or 2.
Season 1: 12 + 11. Season 2: 13 + 12. Season 3: 14, straight through.
The 14-episode figure came from Japanese Blu-ray volume listings before the season finished airing, and those listings are production documents rather than speculation. Widely repeated claims of a 27-episode double-length season were never supported by an official source.
The arithmetic on what's left
Fourteen volumes — 13 through 26 — remained after season 2. Two ways of running the numbers, and they land close together:
- By episodes per volume — at the established rate of four, the remaining 14 volumes need roughly 56 episodes. Season 3 spends 14 of them. That leaves about 42, or two more seasons at the 23-to-25-episode size the show has always used.
- By volumes per season — both previous seasons adapted exactly six volumes regardless of episode count, which is a deliberate-looking design. If season 3 holds to that and covers volumes 13 to 18, eight volumes remain: one unusually long season, or two normal ones.
So the working answer is five seasons, with four as the floor if the studio compresses the ending.

The one number that doesn't fit
Season 3 is where the tidy pattern gets awkward. Fourteen episodes across six volumes would be 2.3 episodes per volume — nearly half the rate of everything before it. Either the season covers fewer volumes than the six-per-season model predicts, or Studio Bind has quietly started moving faster through the back half of the story. Both are possible, and neither has been stated.
Two seasons at four episodes per volume, then a third that either breaks the ratio or breaks the volume count. That's the only genuine unknown left in the calculation.
What hasn't been announced
No fourth season has been confirmed as of 23 September 2026. The finale airs on the 27th, and Studio Bind has historically announced continuations at or immediately after a season's end — season 3 itself was announced off the back of season 2's finale.
Worth separating from the main count: Mushoku Tensei: Redundant Reincarnation, the epilogue novel series, wrapped with its fourth volume in July 2026. It's a short-story collection set after the main story rather than a continuation of it, and nothing suggests it's part of the television plan.
For the record: Seven Seas publishes the light novels in English, and volume 26 is out, so the ending has been readable in translation for anyone unwilling to wait two more seasons for it.
